The Influence of Resilience, Hope, Marital Intimacy, and Family Support on Quality of Life for Middle-Aged Women


Abstract
Purpose: This study was done to examine whether resilience, hope, marital intimacy, and family support had a positive impact on quality of life for middle-aged women.

Methods: Two hundred and thirty six middle-aged women were recruited from July to August, 2007. The instruments were the Resilience measurement instrument, Hope measurement instrument, Marital Intimacy measurement instrument, Family Support measurement instrument, and Quality of Life measurement instrument. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson¡¯s correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using the SPSS/WIN program.

Results: Resilience, hope, marital intimacy, and family support explained 69.12% of the total variance in quality of life for middle-aged women. Middle-aged women with higher levels of resilience, higher levels of hope, higher levels of marital intimacy, and higher levels of family support experienced a higher quality of life.

Conclusion: This finding suggests that resilience, hope, marital intimacy, and family support have a positive impact on quality of life for middle-aged women. There is a need for an effective strategy to improve the quality of life and to increase resilience, hope, marital intimacy, and family support for middle-aged women.
